Summer of Colour (Feb 2025)
The original intention behind this new work was to build on the foundations laid by Part 1 of the Summer of Colour Series, which focused on the late spring/early summer palette of light and bright. As we move into mid to late summer, the palette deepens and the colour harmony changes and the natural world reflects this - it is almost like watching a person mature through the passing of time and the things we experience.
But this series is more than a ‘nod to colour’.
After the usual, hectic December rush to get the house and gardens sorted, plan the family get-togethers and recover from the ‘over-eating’, I decided to hit ‘pause’ for a few days. I spent time working on sculptures for our garden, I took daily walks in the hay paddock and I reflected on past Christmases, lived lives, my memories, and the potential future. I listened to the music of Robert Smith (The Cure) in their latest CD ‘Songs of the Lost World’. For those of you who know me, music is my second ‘love’ and often inspires my artwork. The lyrics and music of ‘Songs of a Lost World’ connected instantly with me and became an integral part of this work.
In my practical daily life, I like to know what I am doing, where I am going, and how I will get there. There is some satisfaction and sense of achievement with this.
But music and my abstract art practice take me on a personal journey of the unknown, a little bit challenging but much more rewarding. And I know, when I have created a piece that speaks to me on a deeper level, that my soul has connected with the sould of the world.
